Sustainability is not just something we discuss in our blog posts. It’s a big part of our mission and a way of living for us. We want everything around eating to be done sustainably and that’s what the new SENS merch is all about!
We are aware you probably buy other stuff to eat aside from our bars. We do too, but don’t tell anyone. We wanted to give you something that expresses your passion for both eating insects and living eco-friendly. We are introducing a reusable SENS fresh produce bag and biodegradable SENS bento box.
Fresh produce bags made from recycled plastic bottles
Plastic is a very useful material but also really bad for us and our environment. It takes 1000 years to decompose yet we use 40 % of all plastic for single-use things like coffee cups or shopping bags. Only 9 % of plastic is recycled and 12 % burned but the remaining 79 % is still around killing sea creatures and slowly poisoning us in a form or microplastics. We decided to help increase the 9 % of recycled plastic by making our fresh produce bag from recycled PET water bottles. No new plastic was produced in making of these bags and you can reuse them as many times as you want. Plus the mesh lets air through so your fruits and veggies can breathe and stay fresh longer. They will be available from July 2018.
Biodegradable bento boxes
Another way of reducing the demand for plastic is to use alternative materials. Our bento lunch boxes are made from wheat straw which is biodegradable, or in other words, it only takes years to decompose in nature, not thousands of years like plastic. These boxes are very sturdy they can be used in temperatures from -20°C to 120°C so that you can wash them and reuse for a long time. They will be available from September 2018.

These fresh produce bags and bento boxes are a limited edition. It’s an experiment to see if you guys like them and want us to keep coming up with more sustainable merch. We want to reward the most loyal of you so we will be giving 3 bags out with every 3rd order and the box with every 5th until stock lasts.
